On the 3rd of November 2016, after a brief relationship ended, I was almost murdered in my own home. During the assault, I was stabbed 11 times and doused in petrol before fleeing for my life.
Many women are not lucky enough to escape--approximately one woman a week in Australia is killed by a current or ex-partner. As a doctor working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, I have also witnessed the sad truth that rates of domestic violence actually increase during pregnancy.
I am participating in White Ribbon's Trek for Respect in September 2017 to make a stand against family and domestic violence. Prevention is key! Funds raised will allow White Ribbon Australia to continue their amazing work aiming to create a society in which all women can live in safety, free from violence and abuse.
With my dad Steve and brother Zac by my side, we will trek over 65kms for five days on the Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory. With most of the stab wounds in my legs and hip, this will be both a physically and mentally challenging event for me. Please support us in this great cause and make a tax-deductible donation today! Thank you so much!
